Our committee is dedicated to advancing ethical, inclusive, and transparent guidance in the protection of human research participants. We bring together experts from bioethics, law, research, and regulatory fields to address evolving challenges in human subject protections through consensus-driven recommendations. Our work includes developing thematic reports, position papers, and advisory documents; hosting forums (e.g., webinars) ; and collaborating with academic institutions, regulators, and professional organizations.
We operate with a structured leadership of Chairs and Vice Chairs, supported by a diverse committee of 5 to 15 members with rolling 3-year terms. Ad hoc working groups—often including external experts—are formed to research specific issues and to help draft guidance. All recommendations are reviewed and approved by majority vote, with transparency and inclusivity at the core of our process.
Our deliverables include 2–4 advisory reports annually, published resources for the public and research community, and presentations at national conferences. Through open calls for new members and rigorous review of proposed topics, we strive to maintain relevance, rigor, and trustworthiness in our work. Governance decisions are made by consensus wherever possible, and our mission, structure, and priorities are reviewed annually to ensure continued alignment with the needs of the human research community.
